The MTRS Club Soccer Vision, Mission & Guiding Principles:
To develop and operate sports fields and other facilities for the benefit of the community and the members, including but not limited to, sports fields and other facilities at the Ivor Dent Sports Park in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
To work together with the other partners at the Ivor Dent Sports Park to provide a first-class tournament facility for our community that can host a multicultural blend of sports including soccer, rugby, cricket, kabaddi, field hockey, football, ultimate; lacrosse and other sports that use outdoor and rectangular fields
To offer sports programming for children and youth in the community and to provide high quality sports fields and facilities for them to use in that programming
To support soccer at all levels with the emphasis on soccer for children and youth
Operating since June 2013 and officially opened on June 27, 2015, Ivor Dent Sports Park is Edmonton’s largest outdoor multi-sport venue for tournaments and recreation. It is a 138-acre multi-sport 24-field complex in Southeast Edmonton (corner of Ellerslie Road and 50th Street).
The park is named after former Edmonton Mayor Ivor Dent, who served as Edmonton’s mayor from 1968 to 1974 and was instrumental in bringing the 1978 Commonwealth Games to the city. The park site previously served as the Commonwealth Games shooting range and continued to be used as such for many years afterward. In November 2004, the City of Edmonton determined to proceed with the reclamation, rehabilitation and redevelopment of the site as the "Multi-Sport Tournament & Recreation Site" or "MTRS". In order to support this large-scale development, the planning model required substantial partner involvement.
In 2011, MTRS Club Soccer was conceived as a separate organization with Southwest United Sports Club (SWU) and Knights of Columbus Trojans Soccer Association (KC Trojans) as members to become one of the City of Edmonton’s principal Sports Partners to develop and operate premium fields at Ivor Dent Sports Park to support their mutual visions and missions to support the development and participation of both adult and youth in soccer at all levels. MTRS Club Soccer was then incorporated as a non-profit society in 2012 based on these initiatives of SWU and KC Trojans. It then entered into a long-term lease agreement with the City and Edmonton and took responsibility for the cost of all capital development, ongoing operations and maintenance of the land and buildings applicable to its 6 of the 24 fields making up the Ivor Dent Sports Park.
MTRS Club Soccer also collaborates with 3 other separate non-profit sports organizations (Sports Partners), each with their own separate specific leased lands and buildings within Ivor Dent Sports Park, namely the Nor’Wester Athletic Association (NWAA), Edmonton Minor Soccer Association (EMSA) and the Punjabi United Sport & Heritage Association (PUSHA), with a view to ensuring the overall governance and programming of the site as a whole.
SWU was formed in 1981 as non-profit society supporting soccer and other athletics in Edmonton.
KC was founded in 1978 and was incorporated in 1979 as non-profit society to support the development and participation of both adult and youth in soccer at all levels.
